Periodical Service

The collection of periodicals of the library is focused on biomedical and related subjects, it's featured by the core journals of medical genetics, pathophysiology, pharmacology, general surgery, psychiatry and mental health, internal medicine (endocrinal and metabolic disease), clinical combination of TCM and western medicine (internal medicine), neurology etc. Now the library holds 101.000 volumes of journals (bound volume), and 3149 kinds of journals (includes 2188 kinds of current issues, among them 792 are of foreign language, 1396 are of Chinese).
There are three periodical rooms in the library presently: foreign language medical periodical room, Chinese medical periodical room and social science periodical room.
The foreign language medical periodical room is on the eastern side of the third floor, includes a back issue stack (1914~1977), a current issue stack (1978~now), a current issue reading room. The current issue reading room mainly displays issues of the year. The issues are arranged alphabetically by title except the Japanese one, which are arranged stroke order.
The Chinese medical periodical room is on the western side of the forth floor, includes a back issue stack and a current issue reading room.
The Chinese social science periodical room is on the western side of the fifth floor; mainly collects important newspapers and current issues of social science. Arranged the stroke order of the title.
Readers can only enter the reading room by his/her own library card. All the journals are not for lending. If photocoping is needed, one should register at the information desk first and then copy it in the library; no bringing out is permitted. Besides reading service, the following extra services are offered:
1. Every reading room has terminals for searching collection of the library.
2. For the convenience of readers, a librarian will carry the needed journals and information to the branch in the Second Affiliated Hospital once a week.
3. Varieties of union catalog are offered in the foreign language periodical room to facilitate regional or national interlibrary loan or photocopy service.
4. There are various of dictionaries and lexicons in the foreign language reading room for reader's use; there are also a micro-opaque readers for reading micro-materials.
